If you’re anything like me and have an “ALL-OR-NOTHING” thinking tendency, you know it shows up EVERYWHERE in your life.
For example, when WORKING OUT, it feels like unless you go to a gym, fitness or yoga class, it doesn’t “count” as a workout. But, if you get curious about the CENTENARIANS in the Blue Zones, they don’t have GYM MEMBERSHIPS. They walk, they keep ACTIVE. I heard an awesome doctor recently say: “If you just go to the gym and are sedentary the rest of the time, you have a sedentary lifestyle because CONSTANT movement is the key.”
Same with your DIET. If you want to eat clean but DECEMBER comes, you might think: “It’s better to start in January.” But you can perfectly start NOW by balancing the holiday FEASTING with periods of intermittent FASTING and reach January better off, more metabolically flexible.
When it comes to your BUSINESS, the tendency could be to -for example- think unless you’re posting in social media EVERY DAY (or blogging or sending a newsletter WEEKLY), you aren’t “DOING IT RIGHT.” When showing up within your own RHYTHM is better than the STRESS of the forced schedule, or dropping it altogether.
And in SELF-CARE, you might think that unless you’re setting aside 10-30 minutes to meditate, you’re not doing “THE WORK.” And you forget THE WORK isn’t to meditate. THE WORK is to translate the mindful and balancing benefits of meditation to the rest of your life. So doing 30 seconds “check-ins,” praying, or creating an energy mandala (especially if you’re highly sensitive) is perhaps as EFFECTIVE, or even more.
WHERE in your life can you DROP the PERFECTIONISM (not the high standards) AND UPDATE your concept of what’s “RIGHT”?
Let’s OPTIMIZE TOGETHER.
