Wondering how to stick with your New Year’s Resolutions past February?
The key is to approach your resolutions/goals in a way where the process is as pleasurable as the outcome.
How can we get immediate positive reinforcement? (Humans are wired for pleasure.)
How do we enjoy the journey and the person we are becoming in the process regardless of the final outcome?
For example, if the goal is to get healthier, let’s focus on the feeling of moving/working out more (and better) and eating healthier meals. Let’s enjoy becoming a person that respects their body so much that makes conscious decisions to treat it well, instead of fixating on the scale.
If the goal is to create a business, how do we design it in such a way we enjoy the people we are dealing with , the things we are learning , the risks we are taking, and the value we’re providing, regardless of the “success” we might get?
If the goal is to be smarter with money, how do we enjoy becoming a person that delays gratification and gets a sense of accomplishment by seeing their savings or investments grow ? How do we associate with people with similar mindsets that reinforce your new commitments?
How do we get pleasure in the feeling (and knowledge) we are growing, evolving, learning, and becoming optimized versions of ourselves?
Then, instead of future-focused, we get to enjoy starting today, and that enjoyment helps us stick to our goals .
